University Policies in General

Most Rutgers University policies can be found in the University Policy Library on the web, which is the official source for the policies governing the academic, administrative, operational, and business affairs of the University. The library holds policies in the following eight functional-based sections: academic; administrative; environmental health, safety and parking; financial management; governance and legal affairs; human resources; information technology; and university relations.   http://policies.rutgers.edu

Copyright

The current university copyright policy can be found at section 50.3.7 of the University Policy Library under “Copyright Policy – Interim.” http://policies.rutgers.edu/PDF/Section50/50_3/50.3.7.pdf

The web page for the Rutgers University Libraries is an excellent resource for information about copyright as well as appropriate procedures to follow in preparing course packs and other materials for teaching.  The Libraries website also provides extensive resources for guidance on “fair use” of the copyrighted materials of others. http://www.libraries.rutgers.edu/rul/rr_gateway/research_guides/copyright/copyright.shtml

Patents

The University Patent Policy governs inventions by faculty, staff and students, and others using  Rutgers facilities.  The Patent Policy can be found at section 50.3.1 of the University Policy Library. http://policies.rutgers.edu/PDF/Section50/50_3/50.3.1.pdf

Disclosures of inventions must be made promptly to the Office of Corporate Liaison and Technology Transfer (OCLTT).  OCLTT oversees the protection and licensing of intellectual property.  OCLTT also negotiates contracts between Rutgers faculty members and industrial research sponsors.
